December 15th 2017 saw Parasport, the Sports Sponsorship Fund of PWD (people with disabilities), hold the closing awards ceremony for the Paralympic team of Vietnam, following a successful 2017 tour. The event offered the ideal occasion and setting to reward the athletes with prizes earned for this year’s successes and hard work.
This is the third consecutive year in which the Foundation has held the ceremony recognizing the commitment and achievements the coaches and athletes have made, contributing a significant amount to the Paralympic movement of Vietnam.
The ceremony was held a week after the weightlifting and swimming recorded emphatic wins at the World Championships in Mexico. The most notable triumph was the much lauded performance by Le Van Cong, current weightlifting world champion in the 49kg weight class, posting a record 183.5kg, breaking his own world record a year ago.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Huynh Thanh Tuyen, the Foundation’s Director commented:
“2017 marks another successful year for Parasport in supporting the coaches and athletes of Vietnam’s Paralympians. After three years of our sponsorship, Vietnam’s Paralympic team has made significant progress in their sporting achievements and at the highest level on the world stage. We are thrilled to see athletes constantly breaking world records at the most prestigious contests, whilst maintaining a consistent record of good practice and competition. We look forward to 2018 at the Foundation, set for what we hope will be another successful year for development of PWD sport in Vietnam.”
The awards ceremony played host to the athletes and coaches from all parts of Vietnam. In addition to Le Van Cong and his coaching team, various teams gathered represented numerous athletes including Vo Thanh Tung, Dang Thi Linh Phuong, Nguyen Binh An, Chau Hoang Tuyet Loan, Trinh Thi Bich Nhu, Do Thanh Hai, Nguyen Thanh Phuc, and Nguyen Ngoc Hiep.
